Frequently asked questions

What is the first step?

You can call or email me for a brief chat. This will give you an opportunity to ask me anything you need to know. If you wish, we can arrange a mutually convenient time to meet. The first meeting of half an hour is free. This initial assessment is an opportunity for both of us to explore whether we could work together. Following this meeting we confirm the fee and agree a working contract.

Is it Confidential?

Yes. Everything discussed between us remains confidential.  The only time confidentiality would be breached is if I thought there was a danger of you committing harm to yourself or to another person.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

How many sessions will I need?

This is something that  we decide together. People often see their counsellor once a week but this is flexible. For example, we may meet once a week at first and then more or  less frequently depending on how you feel.

The counselling I offer can be long-term, short-term or intermittent. The number of sessions will depend mostly on you, e.g. motivation and availability.

How much does it cost?

The current fee is £50 per session.

A 30 minute Introductory session is free of charge.

Concessions are available to Trainee Counsellors.

How long is a session?

A session lasts for 50 minutes.

What if I need to cancel?

A cancellation period of 48 hours is needed to reschedule an appointment. Missed or cancelled appointments (within 48 hours notice), whatever the reason, are charged for.
